Sažetak

Endometrioza predstavlja benigno ginekološko stanje koje podrazumeva prisustvo endometrijuma (žlezda i strome) van mesta njegovog normalnog razvoja. U zavisnosti od veličine i lokalizacije ekstrauterinog endometrijalnog tkiva, razlikujemo tri tipa endometrioze: površna endometrioza, endometrioza u vidu ovarijalne ciste i duboka endometrioza.

Abstract

Endometriosis is a benign gynecological condition which involves the presence of the endometrium (gland and stroma) outside the place of it’s normal development. Depending on the size and localization of the extrauterine endometrial tissue, we distinguish three types of endometriosis: superficial endometriosis, endometriosis in the form of an ovarian cyst and deep endometriosis. Considering the most common symptoms of endometriosis are pain and infertility, the main therapeutic approach is aimed at reducing symptoms and increasing fertility. So far, conservative surgical treatment, radical surgery, drug therapy and preventive methods have been used in the treatment. Iodine is an essential element necessary for the metabolism of the thyroid gland, breast, ovary, endometrium and trophoblast, and it also participates in the metabolism of leukocytes and the production of cytokines with an immunomodulatory role. Earlier researches indicate a link between low iodine intake and the effect on the potential development of neoplasms, where it indicates a lack of iodine in the development of breast, endometrial and ovarian tumors. By itself, an important question arises - if reduced intake of iodine is the cause of the development of estrogen-stimulated tumors, can at the same time adequate intake of iodine affect the prevention of the development of endometriosis/regression of the lesions?
