Pre i posle terapije fizikalnim procedurama ispitanice su popunile Vizuelno analognu skalu bola i upitnik multidimenzionalne procene zamora-Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy scale. Analizirani su bol i zamora, a dobijeni podaci su obrađeni u statističkom paketu SPSS ver. 25 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) for Windows.

Abstract

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of the synovial membrane, leading to joint damage and involvement of other extraarticular structures, with a characteristic clinical presentation dominated by symptoms of pain, swelling, joint stiffness, and fatigue. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of physical therapy on pain and fatigue in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Materials and methods: A retrospective-prospective cross-sectional study was conducted at the Special Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Novi Sad. The participants were female patients with rheumatoid arthritis, with an average age of 60.56 years. All participants provided informed consent to participate in the research. The participants underwent physical therapy modalities with appropriate kinesitherapeutic treatment. Before and after the physical therapy procedures, the participants completed the Visual Analog Scale for pain and the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy scale for multidimensional fatigue assessment. Pain and fatigue were analyzed, and the data were processed using the statistical software SPSS ver. 25 for Windows. Results: The average age of the participants was 50.65 years. The average pre-therapy fatigue score was 27.10, while post-therapy it was 19.67. Almost all items on the fatigue assessment questionnaire showed a statistically significant lower level of fatigue in patients after therapy. A statistically significant difference in pain was recorded on the Visual Analog Scale before and after therapy (p=0.000). Before therapy, a higher level of pain (M=7.07) was reported compared to pain after therapy (M=3.56). Conclusion: After undergoing a combination of physical therapy and appropriate kinesitherapeutic treatment, a reduction in pain and fatigue was observed in female participants with rheumatoid arthritis.
