Abstract

Introduction: Work disability is a loss or reduction of work ability in workplace. The aim: of the study was to investigate the impact of war stressors on the occurence of working invalidity in patients with diabetes. Methods of study: The study was conducted by the type of cross-sectional study from July 2017 to January 2018. on a randomized sample of 191 diabetic patients, of which 141 were from two Health Centers in East Sarajevo, and 50 patients in the group of war veterans (WV) from several medical institutions from Republic of Srpska (RS). A special criterion for the inclusion of WV in the research was that they were in status WV due to disease, rather than injury. The instrument research was a questionnaire with 53 questions, and statistical data processing was done in SPSS v.19. The significance of difference was tested by the  χ2  test and the Pirson correlation coefficient. Research results: The WV percentage of work-disabled was 50% and in the other group was 15.6% (χ2 = 14.3, p<0.001). WV were much younger in diabetics than other subjects (χ2 = 13,840, p = 0.001), they are more nervous (χ2 = 7.34, p<0.01). There was a significant correlation between diabetes duration and number of years in disability status (.522**), longevity absenteism (-1000**), years of service and length of 1,000 **) in group of WV. Conclusion: Diabetes could be the cause of work invalidity in the popualation of WV in RS, and has a significant percentage in young people, but diabetes is also one of the main causes of work disability in the total population.
