Abstract

Introduction: Salivary gland tumors are relatively rare and morphologically diverse lesions. No structure in the human body develops as many different types of tumors as it develops in salivary glands. According to current data, most of these tumors are benign. Earlier studies showed that salivary gland tumors are more frequent in major glands. Aim: This research aims to evaluate data on salivary gland tumors registered at the Center for Pathology and Histology in Novi Sad from 2017 to 2019.  Material and methods: Data were obtained by retrospective analysis of archived medical records. It covers the period from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019. The characteristics analyzed were gender, age, type, and tumor localization. The study included only primary epithelial salivary gland tumors. Results: A total of 253 tumors were registered during the study period. Pleomorphic adenoma was the most common neoplasia. The most common salivary gland malignancy is adenoid cystic carcinoma. Salivary gland tumors occur more frequently in females. Conclusion: Although some differences were observed concerning similar studies, most of the data obtained were consistent with data from other countries.
